These include large and small capital projects with both additions to existing facilities and green field. We have the capability and experience to execute projects at all points in the production process – up, mid and downstream. Successful projects ranging from large mining and extraction facilities to the largest and most advanced SAGD recovery and power production installations.
In executing this work the JV Driver group has led the way in construction innovation including flexible labour strategies, construction execution and safety performance. Shell Albian Sands Fort McMurray, AB Shell JV Driver completed the AOSP Expansion project, this was a 4 billion dollar expansion of the existing Shell Albian facility. It included the Jackpine Mine, new extraction, tailings, froth and utilities facilities. Phase 1 ran from Q3 2006 to Q2 2010. We were the General Contractor for the extraction and tailings portion of this project and was responsible for the completion of all aspects of the project, including civil, mechanical, structural, tankage, electrical and instrumentation. Our scope was approximately 8 million man-hours.
JV Driver was involved with the entire scope of this project, including both labour strategies and constructability. The project was completed meeting schedule and budget milestones, while ensuring quality and safety, with less than 0.5% rework, productivity over 1.15 and no Lost Time Incidents. JVD Fabricators completed all fabrication and module construction for JVD’s scope of work, including 22 Extraction Modules, 9 Tailings Pump Houses and 49 Froth Modules. Horizon Extraction Ft.McKay, AB CNRL JV Driver completed the CNRL Extraction Plant which consisted of 2 primary separation cells, flotation cells, 20 pipe rack modules, hot water facility, electrical substation, and emergency dump sump. We were involved in this project from the early stages of development providing constructability support, labour strategies and construction services.
Our scope was as the general contractor, providing civil, structural, piping and mechanical services. We also provided the off-site fabrication and module assembly for this project. JV Driver’s scope included over 1,000,000 craft man-hours. Having been involved with the entire scope of work, JV Driver was engaged for the entire 4-year life of the project, during that time there were no changes in the Productivity Units. To add to the success, JV Driver was the first to turn over a silo for commissioning, and did so with no rework and a weld repair of less than 1%. The project was completed on time and on schedule with no Lost Time Incidents. Nabiye Cold Lake, AB Imperial Oil Resources JV Driver completed the new steam-generation, bitumen-processing and water treatment facilities to support the In-Situ oil extraction process in Cold Lake.
JVD’s scope of work included earthworks, foundations, structural, piping, mechanical, modules, pipe and steel fabrication. The mechanical equipment being used included 2 GE turbines, 2 HRSGs, 1 OTSG, field-erected tanks and an Ecodyne Hot Lime Softener.
Additional services provided are procurement of bulk materials and responsibilities as prime contractor. JVD Fabricators also completed all fabrication and module construction for this project. Devon Jackfish Conklin, AB Devon JV Driver completed the Jackfish project, a 35,000 barrel-per-day SAGD.
We were responsible for the entire scope of construction and self-performed all but the electrical and instrumentation. This work included all civil foundations and structural work required in the erection of the structures. In addition, JV Driver executed all work in the piping and mechanical scope, utilizing a 300 ton 2250 Manitowoc, with a maximizer, for the installation of modules and vessels from 100-250 tons. All rigging studies were conducted by JV Driver. We utilized constructability reviews during the engineering phase to identify and implement cost effective solutions, including a patented form system, reducing costs and ensuring the project schedule. Chemical As in the oil and gas, JV Driver Group has been executing successful projects in the chemical sector for many years.
These include projects large and small including one of the largest hydrogen plants in the world for CNRL and our recently acquired work on an ethane cracker for Dow on the Gulf Coast. A successful track record, an integrated fabrication/construction offering, world class safety, geographic reach and constant innovation make JV Driver Group a leader in chemical plant construction. Hydrocarbon Unit Houston, TX Dow JV Driver has successfully completed construction contract for Dow Chemical in Houston Texas. The project included piping installation for the Light Hydrocarbon Unit at their Freeport facility in Texas.
The current contract began in January, with a 10 month duration. The scope for this project includes all pipe fabrication and installation for the Unit’s mechanical package, including the supply of valves, specialty items, in-line instruments, pipe supports and miscellaneous steel.
In addition to this work, the Houston team is in discussions on further mechanical scopes with this client as other disciplines will become available. Module Installation Point Comfort, TX Formosa Plastics Corporation We completed the installation of 28 completed modules at the Formosa Plastics facility in Point Comfort, Texas. As part of this scope, JVDIS received the 28 completed modules from three (3) ships arriving at Calhoun Port Authority and then transported the modules to a staging area located near the port. From the staging area the modules were transported to the Formosa Plastics facility and installed. Prior to receiving the modules, JVDIS completed the survey, earthworks, caisson piles, pile caps and structural steel. Horizon Hydrogen Ft.McKay, AB CNRL The CNRL Horizon H2 Plant is a 144,000 MMSCFD plant including a reformer, 2 compressors and a PSA facility. For this project, JV Driver was the general contractor providing civil, structural, mechanical, piping, electrical and finishes.
Our scope included over 859 metric tons of support steel, 21 modules, 1,000 concrete piles, 3,500 cu. Meters of concrete foundations, 50,000 ft. Of piping, construction of the reformer and pressure parts.
Due to high performance, and a record of completing jobs on schedule, more work was continually added to our scope. We took over several of the electrical scopes of work during the project, at which time we successfully mobilized over 150 electricians in less than 3 weeks.
The project involved a large amount of alloy welding which was completed with no rework and a weld repair of less than 1%. Further, our scope was completed with 0 Lost Time Accidents and a TRIR of 0.6. Adding to the Safety and Quality accomplishments, during the project JV Driver broke Technip’s world record for most tubes stabbed in 1 day (48 in a single day). Highland Valley Copper Logan Lake, B.C. Teck In a joint venture with Fluor Canada, JV Driver Group completed a construction contract for Highland Valley Copper which has an open pit copper molybdenum facility at Logan Lake. The scope included the installation of a new pebble crushing facility, upgrades in the existing grinding building, a new floatation facility, upgrades to the existing regent area and a new 138KV transformer.
The project had a crew of between 700-900 with over 1,000,000 direct man-hours, consisting of civil, structural, mechanical, piping and electrical disciplines. Belle Plaine Expansion Belle Plaine, SK Mosaic JV Driver was awarded the Phase 1 Expansion to the Belle Plaine facility. The primary purpose of the expansion is to increase the water availability to the mine field in order to allow further solution mining. The award included the following scope:. Process Water Building. This building includes two tanks, one a raw water storage tank and the other, the hot water storage tank. Our scope is the piling, civil, piping, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and cladding. 138 KV Substation.

Uranium Mine McArthur River, SK Cameco In a joint venture with English River Constructors, JV Driver Group built the Uranium Slurry Loadout Facility for Cameco Corporation. Using JV Driver Group innovative labour strategies was key to the success of this project.
The facility included the largest pachuca tanks ever built in Canada and a 100’ high concrete containment wall that was constructed through extreme weather conditions. Full civil, mechanical, structural, electrical, and instrumentation services were provided for the project. The job was completed in 11 months through an extreme winter, with no Lost Time Accidents. Grande Prairie GPEOP Grande Prairie, AB Weyerhaeuser We completed the installation of the 50MW Dresser Rand Turbo-generator for Weyerhaeuser.
The scope of this project included all new foundations, site scaffolding, all piping (including mill tie-ins), a structural pipe-bridge and tower installation, as well as the mechanical installation of the 50 MW Turbo-generator. This work was later expanded to include the construction of a seven effect evaporator set, condensers, tanks and a cool tower. Canfor Prince George Green Power Project was a mill upgrade to produce electrical power using a steam turbine generator. We acted as general contractor for this project, which included civil, mechanical, structural, and architectural aspects. Specifically, the project required numerous plant upgrades and the scope of work included structural supply and erection, equipment foundation demolition and installation, mechanical and piping supply and installation. This project also entailed the installation of a recovery boiler, concentrator equipment and upgrades to the existing evaporator system. Grande Prairie GPEOP Grande Prairie, AB Weyerhaeuser JV Driver completed a new 50MW Dresser Rand Turbo-generator for Weyerhaeuser.
The scope of this project included all new foundations, site scaffolding, all piping (including mill tie-ins), a structural pipe-bridge and tower installation, as well as the mechanical installation of the 50 MW Turbo-generator. This work was later expanded to include the construction of a seven effect evaporator set, condensers, tanks and a cool tower. The structure is 250 feet by 50 feet at various heights. JV Driver’s scope includes Civil, Structural, Piping, Mechanical, Scaffolding and Insulation. The Mechanical equipment includes an evaporator set supplied by HPD. Turbine and Generator Athabasca, AB Alberta Pacific Forest Ltd.
JV Driver completed the installation of a new 35 MW steam Turbine and Generator. This scope included the Civil, Rebar and Mechanical portion of work related to the installation of the Turbine and Generator at their mill near Athabasca, Alberta. The structure measures 6,850 square feet. JVD’s scope included piers and pier caps for the Turbine and Generator, floor slabs and installation of approximately 120 tons of rebar, as well as the installation of steam piping and an air condensing cooler and the installation of the generator and turbine. The project incorporated over 20,000 inches of pipe of varying commodities.
Green Energy Project Castlegar, B.C Zellstoff The Zellstoff Celgar, Green Energy Project mechanical installation was awarded to JVD Installations Inc in March 2010. The project initially consisted of the mechanical installation of a 48MW Shin Nippon Condensing Turbine and Brush Generator and all ancillary piping and equipment installations. Upon mobilization to site for mechanical installation JVDII was also awarded the electrical installation package consisting of the installation of all high voltage cables, control and power cabling, switch gear, power control and DCS installations, as well as all field terminations associated with the turbine/generator and ancillary equipment. The turbine started commissioning in September 2010 and to date has met all of its regulatory requirements for output and has met or exceeded the stringent mechanical quality parameters set out by Shin Nippon Turbines and Brush Getnerators. Green Power Project Prince George, B.C.

This project also entailed the installation of a recovery boiler, concentrator equipment and upgrades to the existing evaporator system. Grande Prairie GPOP Grande Prairie, AB Weyerhaeuser The Grande Prairie Optimization Project is an environmental and efficiency project.
The centerpiece of the environmental portion of the project is a two-vessel oxygen delignification system with pre and post oxygen washing, which significantly reduces effluent color. The efficiency portion of the project is a combination of many elements, involving the chemical, recovery, utilities, fibreline and machine room areas. JVD acted as the general contractor for this project, responsible for the completion of all aspects of the project including civil, mechanical, structural, tankage, electrical, and instrumentation. This scope included the replacement of all piping in the brownstock area, and incorporated re-building the bleach washers, innovatively replacing the chip bin and an expansive heavy lift schedule.
