I'll be getting a new Macbook Pro this week and will be retiring my iBook G4. On my iBook, I had to run Virtual PC for college. Now, going back to school, I'll need a program to run Windows-based programs. I really didn't like the speed of Virtual PC but but I'm thinking it was because of the memory of the iBook.
I'm debating buying Parallels Desktop 5.0 for the new Macbook Pro but if Virtual PC will do the job and not be a pain, I don't want to spend the money. Any suggestions? LittlePete83 wrote: Hello all!

Emulating an actual processor takes tons more resources.
Doing so on an iBook G4 was probably painfully slow. Current virtualization options (Parallels, VirtualBox, Fusion) allow the virtual machine to have direct access to the processor that Windows was designed to run on (Intel). In many cases, a virtual machine will run nearly as well as running natively (less 3D acceleration). Also, since Macs now run on Intel processors, you can run Windows natively via BootCamp (which is part of the OS that will be on your new Machine). This will allow you to have the option to boot your machine directly into Windows which would be the same as running Windows on any other PC with similar hardware.
